David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser, April 6, 2013!
All interested fans of the 1970s television cop show series, Starsky and Hutch, were invited to join David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 6, 2013, for SurCon (short for the “Survival” Convention) — a fan tribute event designed to honor these men — based loosely around the Starsky and Hutch episode “Survival.”
“Survival” was David Soul’s directorial debut and he kept his original script all these years. In fact, he showed it to a few fans while he attended The Hollywood Show in Burbank in February 2012. And then he lost track of it. To read about the search for the “Survival” script and how it ended up in Laura’s hands, click here.
Laura and Carolyn hand-delivered the script to David in mid-July while he was performing on stage in Dublin in the play, “Love Letters,” with Jerry Hall. While there, David was kind enough to painstakingly go through that original script with Laura and Carolyn — page by page — and share exclusive details about how he directed the episode.
Naturally, Laura and Carolyn couldn’t help themselves. They immediately thought: Wouldn’t it be great for other fans to enjoy hearing David’s memories about “Survival” — and show them his original script, too? Wouldn’t it be great to let David and Paul know how much their gifts mean to all of us?
And that, dear friends, was how SurCon was born!
